Led by Áine Crowley, Programme Manager, Arts and Engagement, with Jijo Sebastian, film-maker and previous AIC Scheme recipient, and is available to artists throughout Ireland
The information session is about answering any questions artists might have about making an application to the Artist in the Community Scheme. It’s also about sharing experience of developing and delivering a collaborative project through the Scheme.

Jijo Sebastian is a migrant, collaborative filmmaker with more than a decade of experience in participatory, collaborative and intercultural filmmaking in a community-based context. He is one of the recipients of the 2015 Artist in the Community Scheme Project Realisation Award, 2016 Next Generation bursary award, and 2020 Arts Participation Bursary from the Arts council Ireland. Jijo has written, directed and produced 7 short films and one feature length tele-film collaborating with groups, families and individuals from the keralite, Indian community in Ireland. Selected films have been screened at international film festivals and received best film and best director award at Fokana film festival, Illinois, USA. Jijo’s practice and films find coherence in their shared immigrant-oriented themes, participatory methodologies and suburban Dublin geographical context.
Collaborative Clinic
In addition to the information session, Create, in partnership with Cairde Sligo Arts Festival, supported by Sligo County Council Arts Service, is also offering online Collaborative Clinic sessions on the 8th July. The Collaborative Clinic offers artists/applicants one to one project advice sessions with members of the Create team.
These include sessions specifically for first-time applicants to the Research and Development award, and those who have been unsuccessful in the past, as well as sessions for applicants to the Project Realisation award – looking at Budgeting, Communications and Dissemination, Production and Digital Platforms and Evaluation.
These 30 minute clinics are reserved for Sligo-based artists who have attended the information session. Booking details will be made available closer to the time.
What is available at the Collaborative Clinic:
If you are applying for a Research and Development Award:
Jane O’Rourke, Office Manager will answer specific questions you might have about making an R&D application, help tease out the practicalities and offer you tips and guidance on getting your application together.
If you are applying for a Project Realisation Award:
Project development – Áine Crowley, Programme Manager, Arts and Engagement, can talk with you about developing and delivering a collaborative project and specific questions you might have about making an application to the Artist in the Community Scheme.
Production + Digital Strategies – Vance Lau, Arts and Cultural Programme Coordinator, can advise on project management from day one to completion, and ideas on collaboration and dissemination on virtual realm, a useful resource to artists considering a funding application.
Communications and Dissemination – Keelin Murray, Communications and Publishing Manager, can work with you on developing or editing an artist’s statement, website, advertisement, or social media presence, to make sure your message is reaching your audience. Please bring an example text you would like to work on, or specific questions to discuss with Keelin.
Budget and administration – Arthur Duignan, Assistant Director, can talk you through constructing a budget and advise on other aspects of financial management, including payment of awards and project administration e.g. insurance and contracts.
Evaluation -Grainne Coughlan, Independent Researcher, can talk you through tailoring self-evaluation to your practice, offering tools and advice on how to incorporate self-evaluation in your project with the aim of helping you develop your work and assist in your approach to report writing.
