Ephemera tells an ancient story – a powerful goddess, long dormant and bound beneath the land of Ireland. Four tribes from across the globe unite in a shared mission: to awaken and release her. Their journey becomes a dramatic procession through the heart of Sligo, tracing the path of the river and culminating at Queen Maeve Square. There, in a breathtaking fusion of aerial performance and fire ritual, the goddess Ephemera is finally set free – rising once more and returning to her own realm. Ephemera is a festival commission created by new spectacle company, VolkiDána, founded by spectacle artist and designer Bridget Ní Dhuinn, and contemporary circus artist and director Polina Shapkina.

This event involves engagement with Sligo communities: Aremoja, Sligo Youth Theatre, Foroige, and Men’s, Women’s and Queer Sheds, led by Hannah Dobson and Rummy McCullagh of Allta Creations.

Cairde’s Closing Spectacle was funded by Co. Sligo LEADER Partnership.

VolkiDána is funded by The Arts Council.
