Inspired by the music of Irish harpist and composer Turlough O’Carolan, Macalla is a new musical commission that brings together highly accomplished traditional and folk musicians from Iraq and Ireland to blend Middle Eastern and traditional Irish music to wonderful effect. Don’t miss this incredible cross-cultural collaboration.

Macalla features Lucia McGinnis (Harp), Niwar Issa (Qanun), Saman Kareem (Oud), Helin Star Qadir (Violin), Kawar Rajab Khalid (Percussion) from the pan-Iraqi ensemble Mshakt with Martin Coyle (Bouzouki), Denise Boyle (Fiddle) and Paul Cutliffe (Uilleann pipes and whistle) of the North West Folk Collective.

This project has been initiated by Earagail Arts Festival and funded by The British Council.

Special thanks to Paul Brown, Tanya Mahir, Ahmed Adnan, Nabaa Algaber and Colette Norwood.
